15mm XCOM: Advent troops inbound

Loyal Citizens, I stand truly humbled.Today our struggle Ends.

Advent are the superficially virtuous state apparatus that the remnants of XCOM are resisting. They preach a brotherhood with their alien benefactors, but secretly are just liquidating humanity for their genetic code and use as cannon fodder.

In an excellent decision for a computer game, each type of trooper is colour coded. You know what else this would work well for? table top games!!

With only a vague inkling of a ruleset I will hack up one day, I've been slowly chipping away at building the troops required. Today, the (advent) struggle ends.

These folks are 15mm figs from rebel minis. Titan Marines I believe. While the sculpts are too close, they do have enough similarity that with a similar point job and a psychological suggest (IT'S XCOM PEOPLE) I think it will pass muster. For whatever reason, these guys were painfully slow to finish and lots of things got worked on between each small step of progress. At last this particular struggle ends.....you know, except for the basing (AH!)

  1. Nice work daveb! Despite the obvious helmet differences, it is very easy to link them to the images from the game due to the colour of the armour.

    1. Yay it worked! Thanks for the input. It'd be nice if it was closer, but hey, it's 15mm, so I'm sure the 'close enough' rule should win out.

  2. Bloody hell dave, thats a lot of cool detail you've managed to paint onto such small figs. Well done.

Have you looked at 2Hour Wargames: 5150 Star Army as a potential rules set? Great for solo as well as multi-player games.

    1. Thanks Dai. It ended up being a bit more tedious than I thought it would be. 'Translating' the marks to a different style of armour wasn't always simple. Finding pics of all the different troops in a resolution that helped ended up bring pretty challenging at times.

I dunno about 2 hour wargame. I like some of the generator stuff, but I've struggled with the 'flow' of checks and results for the regular play. I'm leaning towards something simplified that sorta mimics the play of the new (streamlined) computer game.

    1. Sorry your comment got lost in the moderation pile. Strangely I got no notice of it. The chimera squad game was pretty cool....unsurprisingly I had a few thoughts on gaming that too. Spacejacker (now sadly quiet) had some awesome tiles. https://tinysolitarysoldiers.blogspot.com/2014/08/5-parsecs-continues.html
Matakishi goes into it as well having lifted the idea. https://www.matakishi.net/ao-missions.html

I haven't chosen xcom squad soldier yet. It's a bit tricky to be sure. I think I have some GZG NSL jaegers who look like like mid to upper tier xcom armour....but not close enough. Still a work in progress....
